Jesolo (Italy), Saturday 12 May 2012
The Moonlight Half Marathon is an immensely scenic and atmospheric race, held on a point-to-point course on the northern Adriatic, very close to Venice.
Over 2,500 runners took part in the last edition of the event. The 3,500 spots for the next race may fill up well before the closing date.
The start is at 7.45pm on the waterfront in Cavallino-Treporti, from where there are ferries and speedboats to Venice.
The first half of the route runs along the quiet and beautiful Venetian Lagoon. Then, the character of the race changes as runners approach the bustling beach resort of Lido di Jesolo with its miles of sandy beaches, plenty of bars and nightlife, and approximately 4.5 million visitors per year. You can expect a number of rock bands and many spectators creating an electrifying atmosphere.
The route is certified and traffic-free, and apart from one bridge it's completely flat.
In 2011, the winners were Italy's elite marathon runner Ruggero Pertile (1:07:17) and Morocco's Meriyem Lamachi (1:16:28).
