The Cjaminade fra Amis is a non-competitive running and hiking event held yearly in March in the Province of Udine in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the north-eastern corner of Italy.
Every year, around 2,000 or more people travel from near and far to the village of Gonars to take part in the event.
Five very flat routes are available, approximately 6km, 12km, 21km, 30km and 40km long. Participants can still decide on the course which distance they want to run (or walk).
The route runs on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel and trails) through agricultural land, woods, vineyards and villages on the vast Bassa Friulana plain.
There are several feed stations along the course, some of them offering local delicacies like Friulian wine and musetto (a type of spiced pork sausage). After the run, more food and drinks are available at very reasonable prices.
The entry fees are just €3 and even less (€2.50) if you are registered with the FIASP (Federazione Italiana Amatori Sport Per tutti) sports federation.
