Staged in the Kladenský uhelný revír (Kladno coalfield), approximately 35 kilometres west of Prague, Halda is a unique running event.

The race not only is described at length in a poem but also features a very scenic and unusual course.

The route is 5.24 kilometres long. It includes 114 metres of elevation gain.

Starting at a 1.9km-long fishing lake, the Turyňský rybník, competitors run on mixed terrain to the top of a large spoil tip, the tuchlovická halda, which was created by dumping waste rock from the neighbouring coal mine, the důl Tuchlovice.

Since the mine was closed, the waste dump has been recultivated. It offers fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

With 59 finishers in 2015 and 90 finishers in 2016, Halda is still a relatively small hill running event that will surely grow further in the future.

Last year, both Tomáš Řenč (19 minutes 5 seconds) and Vladěna Hrstková (23 minutes 1 second) set new course records.
