The Night Run race series in the Czech Republic kicks off on Saturday 22 April 2017 in the steel city of Ostrava, the third-largest city in the country with a population of about 300,000, situated in the Upper Silesia region near the border with Poland.

Entrants can choose between two race distances, 5km (one lap, start at 8pm) or 10km (two laps, start at 9pm).

All participants must wear a čelovka (headlamp) during the race.

The route begins on Ostrava's main square, Masarykovo náměstí, ...

... and runs along the River Ostravice and through the 1.8km-long Komenského sady park which stretches along the river:

In the park, the route passes the highly-expressive Památník Rudé Armády (Red Army Memorial, pictured at the top of the page).

Last year, the two races combined had more than 1,000 finishers.

The event also offers children's races and a non-competitive Family Run (2km)
