The Stadtlauf Leipzig offers a 5k, a 10k, and two children's races through the city centre of Leipzig, a lively city of more than half a million people in the state of Sachsen (Saxony) in eastern Germany.

The 5k is one lap and the 10k is two laps of a flat course which begins and ends at the magnificent Renaissance-style Altes Rathaus ("Old Town Hall").

The route visits many of Leipzig's best sights, for instance the Augustusplatz, one of Germany's largest city squares (pictured).

Instead of a bib, entrants get a technical T-shirt which they must wear during the race.

Last year, the 10k race had 1,458 finishers. Over 800 runners took part in the 5k.
