More than 600 runners took part in last year's Leopoldilauf which is held in honour of Saint Leopold III, patron saint of Austria and of Vienna, whose feast day is on November 15th.

Staged on a 7km loop course in the vast Prater park in Vienna, the event offers three races — a 7k, a 14k, and a half marathon.

The route, which is pancake-flat, traffic-free, and AIMS-certified, passes the ‘Wurstelprater’ amusement park with the famous Giant Ferris Wheel (pictured).

The start/finish line is on Prater Hauptallee, an over 4km-long avenue through the park. Participants can use the showers and changing facilities of the LCC athletic club at the nearby Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's national stadium.
