Every year in August, Kärnten läuft ("Carinthia runs") along the northern shore of the Wörthersee, a 16.5km-long lake in Austria's state of Kärnten.

Last year, more than 2800 runners completed the half marathon, led home by the Kenyan world-class athletes Eliud Kipchoge (1:01:02) and Florence Kiplagat (1:10:06).

The race follows a point-to-point route that begins on the lakeside promenade in Velden, a fashionable resort at the western end of the Wörthersee, and ends in the Europapark at the lake's eastern end, approximately 4km from the city centre of Klagenfurt. The course is gently undulating and closed to all traffic.

In addition to the half marathon, the event offers a quarter marathon (10.55km) which had over 1400 finishers last year.
