This Berglauf takes place in Italy's amazingly beautiful autonomous alpine province of South Tyrol where German is the most widely spoken language.

Starting in the village of Schenna (Italian: Scena) (pictured) near the spa town of Meran (Merano), the race features a tough 10km uphill course that includes 1300m of climbing. The finish line is at an elevation of 1886m in the Meran 2000 ski area.

The first part of the route is on asphalt roads but most of the race is run on gravel roads, trails and ski slopes.

Last year, over 100 runners took part in the race. The fastest finishers were Hannes Rungger (1:03:17) and Edeltraud Thaler (1:21:41). The time limit to complete the course is two and a half hours.
