Runners in Central Europe can look forward to a new 42.195km marathon in Austria's capital, held three weeks after the Vienna City Marathon.

Like the Herbstmarathon in the autumn, the Frühlingsmarathon ("Spring Marathon") takes place entirely in the Prater, a vast wooded park which is popular with all sorts of sports people all year round.

The route is a bit over 7km long (7032.5 metres). The marathon is six laps, the half marathon three laps. It's also possible to run just one lap.

As the course is completely flat, traffic-free and AIMS-certified the event offers a fair chance of setting a personal record. The time limit to finish the race is six hours.

The Frühlingsmarathon commemorates Adolf Gruber (1920-1994), Austrian distance runner and founder of the athletics club LCC Wien which organizes the event.
