Almost 4400 runners completed last year's 10km Alsterlauf race around the Außenalster, a large lake and popular recreational area in Hamburg's city centre.
The fastest finishers were Kenya's top athletes Daniel Chebii (28min 32sec) and Caroline Chepkwony (32min 49sec).
The race features two start areas. "Start A" is on Mönckebergstraße, Hamburg's main shopping street. "Start B" is nearby on Steinstraße.
The course is very mildly undulating on asphalt roads.
Runners pass Hamburg's Central Station, the renowned Kunsthalle art museum, and innumerable elegant villas along the shores of the Außenalster.
The finish line is on Ballindamm on the Binnenalster (the smaller one of the two Alster lakes), near Hamburg's main square and the town hall.
