12th 'Running Festival Bad Blumau' 2012
Bad Blumau (Austria), Tuesday 1 May 2012
Held every year on May Day, the Lauffestival in the spa village of Bad Blumau offers a 21km half marathon (four laps), a 10.5km quarter marathon (two laps), a 5.25km run (one lap), as well as races for children and nordic walkers.
Situated amid rolling hills in Austria's state of Styria, Bad Blumau is home to the Rogner Bad Blumau (pictured), a thermal spa complex designed by the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Participants in the Lauffestival receive a voucher for an entry ticket to the spa but as entries are limited they need to make a reservation beforehand if they want to use the voucher on the day of the event.
Starting and finishing in the centre of the village, the route is a very mildly undulating loop on roads and footpaths along the valley and through the spa complex.
In 2011, the half marathon winners were Wolfgang Wallner (1:10:23) and Maria Hochegger (1:23:34).
