12th Gradišče Mountain Running Race 2012
Gradišče pri Vipavi (Slovenia), Easter Monday 9 April 2012
Held on Easter Monday, the Gradiški gorski tek gives well-fed runners the opportunity to burn off excessive calories in a short but demanding mountain running race in Slovenia's Mediterranean Primorska region.
The route is just 4 kilometres long but it includes 550 metres of elevation gain.
The start is in the village of Gradišče pri Vipavi, which is situated near the picturesque small town of Vipava in the fruit- and wine-growing Vipava Valley.
Competitors run on hiking trails up the densely wooded slopes of the mighty Nanos Plateau. The finish line is on a clearing in the forest.
There are no particular views from the route or from the finish area but the trails are really nice, and there's a great vantage point which you shouldn't miss when you walk back down to the award ceremony in the village.
In 2011, the winners were Slovenia's Simon Alič (22:08) and Daniela Da Forno of Italy (29:56).
