6th Lake Faak Run 2011
Faaker See (Austria), Sunday 10 July 2011
The Faakerseelauf features an undulating, traffic-free and certified route around the Faaker See, a popular holiday and bathing destination in southern Austria.
Participants choose between the 21.1km half marathon (two laps around the lake) and the 10.55km "Panoramalauf" (one lap).
As access to the lake is very limited only a short section of the course runs along the shoreline. Nevertheless, the route is attractive and varied as you run through pretty villages, woods and fields.
Most of the course is on roads and cycleways. Approximately one kilometre is on forest trails. The route is mostly flat on the eastern side of the lake, but in the west there are some decent climbs.
In 2010, the event had almost 700 participants, many of them holidaymakers and day trippers from nearby Italy and Slovenia. The top half marathon finishers, however, came from Kenya and Hungary: Philip Kipkurgat Yiego (1:07:02) and Mónika Nagy (1:23:11).
