The half marathon in the city of Udine in north-eastern Italy is a top event with over 1200 finishers last year and world-class athletes at the front of the field.

Although mildly undulating, the course is very fast. The course records are held by Benson Barus (59:41) and Margaret Okayo (1:07:23), both of Kenya.

The start and finish are in the historic centre of Udine, an appealing city of art and culture. With almost 100,000 inhabitants it's the largest city in the Friuli area. The old town with its many well-preserved historic buildings, elegant piazzas, and a castle on top of a hill is well worth a visit.

After the start at the cathedral the route runs across the magnificent Piazza Libertà. Participants then run one loop through the northern suburbs of Udine and through small towns and villages. The last kilometres are along the ring road around Udine's old town.

In 2009, Benson Barus defended his title in a time of 1:01:28. His compatriot Pasalia Kipkoech led the women home in 1:11:11.
