10th "Wine-tavern Half Marathon" 2010

Austrians go to a Buschenschank to sample young, home-made wine. Usually, these wine-taverns also provide cold buffets of traditional, mostly meat-based peasant food.

We don't advise you to try the wine and the hearty Buschenschank food during the race, although you may be tempted to do so. Several wine-taverns along the course offer their wine and home-made specialities, and some participants just can't say "No". It may be wiser, however, to wait until the finish line. Ample food will be available at the Buschenschankfest after the race.

The hilly route runs mostly along asphalt roads through woods, fields and vineyards around the village of Loipersdorf in the south-west of Austria, close to the Hungarian border.

The event includes races of 4.5k, 10.8k and 21.1k, as well as a 13k nordic walking competition.

All races start at the thermal spa of Therme Loipersdorf. The finish of the 4.5k race is at the spa, all other races finish in the village, four kilometres to the north.

In 2009, Christine Wenzl defended her half marathon title in a time of 1:30:50, Hermann Peindl celebrated victory in 1:11:08.
