32nd Half Marathon Isontina 2010

Gorizia (Italy), Sunday 7 March 2010

Gorizia, Italy

This truly international half marathon is held in early March in the town of Gorizia in the north-east of Italy. The race runs for about 10 kilometres through neighbouring Slovenia.

The start and the finish are in the centre of Gorizia, which is squeezed in between the River Isonzo and the border with Slovenia. Participants run through the town centre with its impressive castle hill, tree-lined avenues and elegant palazzos, as well as through outlying parts of Gorizia and through the small town of Šempeter in Slovenia.

The course is mildly undulating and includes multiple twists and turns but it's regarded by most runners as fast.

In addition to the half marathon the event features an 8.5km fun run and plenty of entertainment over the weekend, for instance a tour of historic Fiat cars.

In 2009, Rachid Kisri of Morocco set a new course record of 1:03:28. Njoki Josephine Wangoi of Italy led the women home in 1:17:47.
