The Brixen Dolomites Marathon is a new 42.2-kilometre uphill mountain race in Italy's northernmost province of South Tyrol (Italian: Alto Adige).

The start is in front of the cathedral of Brixen (Italian: Bressanone), an attractive old town located at an elevation of 560 metres in the narrow Eisack Valley.

Almost three-quarters of Brixen's 20,000 inhabitants speak German as the first language.

The finish is at an elevation of 2450 metres on Plose, a massive mountain with three summits over 2500 metres, and a popular skiing and hiking area.

Ergo, the race features an elevation gain of 1890 metres and should only be tackled by very well-prepared distance and mountain runners. The event also offers a 4-person relay race.

Some parts of the route are on asphalt roads but most of the race follows forest and mountain trails.

After the race you will have to limp down to the cable car, which will take you from an elevation of 2000 metres to the award ceremony in the village of St. Andrä at 1000 metres. From there, buses will bring you home to Brixen.

Entry fees (42km): 40/50/60 EUR (until 31 March/until 15 June/late entries)

Entry fees (relay teams): 90/100/120 EUR

Race centre: Forum Brixen, Romstrasse 9 (Friday 2 July 13.00-20.00, on the day 6.00-8.00)

You get: pasta party (on Friday), chip timing, bus service for relay runners, transport of personal clothing to the finish, medal, finisher T-Shirt, cable car and bus service from Valcroce (2000m) to Brixen

Prizes: first 10 men and 5 women, first 3 in each category, first 3 in each relay category (men/women/mixed)

Presentation: Flower ceremony at the finish, award ceremony in St. Andrä (S. Andrea)
