Although just 40 kilometres to the north-west of Slovenia's capital Ljubljana, this small mountain running event is far off the beaten track.

Start is at an elevation of 480 metres in the village of Rudno, located in a lovely green valley, two kilometres to the north of the old ironworking town of Železniki.

The route is 7.5 kilometres with an elevation gain of 690 metres, mostly on trails through forests and pastures. At half-way, in the village of Dražgoše, the route levels out and participants run approximately one kilometre along an asphalt road.

The finish line is at an elevation of 1170 metres on Dražgoška gora (Mount Dražgoše) on the densely wooded Jelovica Plateau. From the finish, there are marvellous views of Slovenia's alpine foothills.

Participants get some refreshments and their personal clothing at the finish, before they walk back down to Dražgoše village, where lunch and the award ceremony will be held.

In 2009, the winners were Peter Kastelic (39:48) and Mihaela Tušar (52:28).

Tourist information: The village of Dražgoše was heavily destroyed in World War Two. A memorial on the road from Rudno to Dražgoše reminds of the cruelties during and after the fierce "Battle of Dražgoše" in 1942. Škofja Loka, one of the oldest and most charming small towns in the country, is 18km from Rudno, on the road to Ljubljana.
