The River Mura near Mursko Središće 

You can't go any further north in Croatia. The small town of Mursko Središće is located on the southern bank of the River Mura, which forms the border with Slovenia.

The Hungarian border is 10 kilometres away, and even Austria is so close that many Croats commute the 45 kilometres to work in the town of Bad Radkersburg.

The area around Mursko Središće is unspectacular but very charming. It's great running and cycling country with low-lying fields to the east and rolling hills and vineyards to the west.

There are footpaths on the green dikes along the protected landscape of the Mura, and within a radius of 20 kilometres you'll find three thermal spas in three different countries - wonderful!

The event includes a 2.6k "Citizen's Run" and a 10.3k race, which follows a flat out-and-back course along the country road to the east of Mursko Središće.

Start and finish are at the football pitch near the river.

The Town Race is a small and friendly event with low entry fees, lots of prizes and a warm meal for all runners after the race.

In 2009, the winners of the main race were Josip Lacković (35:28) and Martina Bezek (40:31).

Mursko Središće is in Međimurje County, where traditions are kept alive.
