"The Way of Knowledge" Half Marathon 2009
This half marathon in Hungary's beautiful capital city aims mainly at the university student and teacher community but the race is open to everyone, and many of the best Hungarian distance runners have taken part in the event.
The race begins and ends at the campus of the prestigious Semmelweis University, Hungary's oldest medical school, which also offers courses in Physical Education and Sports Sciences. The university is highly popular with students from foreign countries as many courses are held in English or German.
The race travels along the "Way of Knowledge" past several universities, colleges and academies on both sides of the River Danube. You also pass the magnificent 268m-long Parliament Building, and as more than half of the race is on an out-and-back section along the Danube you see it even twice.
Apart from the ramps leading up to the bridges across the Danube the route is flat and fast.
A 6km run, the "Academic 6", supports the event.
In 2008, the winners were Gábor Szabó (1:12:06) and Fanni Gyurkó (1:20:44).
