Lake Faak Run

The Faaker See with its turquoise waters and the good views of the Karawanken mountains to the south is a popular holiday and bathing destination.

The lake is comparatively small (its widest point is little more than 2km across), and you need to run two laps around the lake to make it a half marathon. However, you can also finish after one lap if you enter the 'Panoramalauf' of 10.5km.

The course is quite flat to the east of the lake and undulating to the west. Just a very short section is along the shoreline but the route offers some fine views of the lake. Most of the route is on roads and bike paths but approximately one kilometre is on a forest trail.

The Faaker See Lauf is one of the races the Slovene world-class runner Helena Javornik won last year after she had tested positive for EPO in March 2008. It took about a year to suspend her from competition. In last year's event, more than 20 runners took down their race numbers and boycotted the race in protest against Javornik's appearance.
