Advent Race of the LCC-Vienna 2009
The Rathaus, Vienna's City Hall
The Adventlauf offers a good chance to burn off a few calories and possibly even clock a personal 10km record before indulging in ginger bread, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine on Vienna's famous Christmas Market in front of the decorated City Hall.
The race, however, is not staged in the city centre but a few kilometres further east in the large Prater park. It follows the same route as most of the other running events organized by the athletics club LCC-Wien.
You run two laps of 3k each, and then 2k out and 2k back on the straight, chestnut-lined Prater Hauptallee. The course is AIMS-certified, traffic-free, and completely flat and fast. Only the turning point on the Hauptallee may slow you slightly down.
In 2008, Kenyan Job Tanui (30:56) and Esther Erb from the U.S. (38:17) won the race with ease.
