2nd Lake Velence Supermarathon
Lake Velence is a very popular summer holiday destination for Hungarians.
Just 45 kilometres from the capital Budapest, the 11km-long and up to 3.5km-wide lake resembles a small version of Lake Balaton with lots of campsites, tourist and water-sport facilities, most of them along the southern and eastern shores. The lake is very shallow and the water warms up very quickly.
About one third of the lake is covered with reed, and at the western end there's a protected bird reserve.
In the Lake Velence Supermarathon you will run one lap (27km) or two laps (54km) anticlockwise around the lake. The route is flat along the southern shore and undulating in the northern part.
The organizers expect 400 to 500 runners and several prominent figures to take part in the event.
The winners of the first edition in 2008 were:
27km : János Lustyik (1:54:25) and Annamária Pécsi (2:13:26)
