Participants in the Velencei-tó Szupermaraton (‘Lake Velence Supermarathon’) in Hungary run either one lap (30km) or two laps (60km) around the stunningly-beautiful Velencei-tó (Lake Velence) which is situated about halfway between Budapest and Lake Balaton.

The race is run on roads and cycleways, starting in the town of Velence. The route is flat along the southern shore but north of the lake it is undulating.

The event also offers a 10k race and a half marathon. Both routes are out and back.

Velencei-tó is eleven kilometres long, up to three and a half kilometres wide and very shallow. Approximately one third of the lake is covered with reed. At the west end is a bird reserve. As the water warms up quickly in the summer, Lake Velence is a popular place for swimming and water sports.

As far as we know, the event was last held on 16 September 2017.
