14th International Stinatz Half Marathon
This road running event has a very international feel.
Stinatz is a village in the low-lying Burgenland province in the south-east of Austria, not far from the Hungarian border. However, according to a recent census only 30 percent of the 1400 inhabitants use German as a first language. Most of them belong to the region's Croatian minority whose ancestors settled here in the 16th century.
In last year's half marathon the neighbours from Hungary showed a very strong presence and took the first three places in the men's and in the women's race. Szabolcs Kustos won in a very good time of 1:07:51, former Olympian Ida Kovacs led the ladies home in 1:19:25.
The race is held on a 4.2km-lap course through the village. The route is flat and fast, only the turning point in each lap may slow you slightly down.
