The Marathon Banská Bystrica is a road running event held since 2012 in Banská Bystrica, a city of about 75,000 people, situated in the narrow Hron valley which cuts through Slovakia's mountainous heartland.

The first six editions of the race took place each year in September. Since 2018, the marathon has been held on a Saturday evening in June.

Runners can choose between these races:

  • 5km (päťka)
  • 10km (desiatka)
  • 21.1km half marathon (polmaratón)
  • 3 x 7km relay (štafeta)
  • 42.2km marathon (maratón)

Starting and ending at the Europa SC shopping centre, the half marathon is three laps and the marathon is six laps of a certified and mainly flat and fast out-and-back course. Each lap features 16 metres of ascent.

The time limit to finish the marathon is five and a half hours (at 11pm).
