Held on a very scenic 26.5km point-to-point course through the Dolomites in the Trentino province in Italy, the Marcialonga Running is a popular running event that attracts a crowd of more than 1,000 runners.
The route follows the Avisio river, starting in Moena (pictured), a small town situated at an elevation of 1,165 metres in the Val di Fassa (Fassa Valley), and finishing in the ski resort of Cavalese which is at 1,000 metres above sea level in the Val di Fiemme (Fiemme Valley).
The first 21km are mainly downhill (305m of descent). Then, the route goes uphill (140m of ascent).
It is possible to form a team of three runners to run the race as a relay.
Since 2022, the event also offers a half marathon option (the first 21.1km of the 26.5km race).
Entrants must be in possession of a valid medical certificate if they are not a member of a running club recognized by World Athletics.
