The Balaton Marathon and Half Marathon (Hungarian: Balaton maraton és félmaraton) is a road running event held over a weekend in November on the southern shore of Balaton, Hungary's and Central Europe's largest lake.
This is the schedule for 2025:
Saturday 22 November 2025 in Siófok
- 10:00: 14.07km (1/3 marathon)
- 12:30: 10.55km (1/4 marathon)
- 12:30: 21.1km (1/2 marathon)
- 16:00: 7.03km (1/6 marathon)
Sunday 23 November 2025 in Fonyód:
- 13:00: 6km (Minimarathon)
- 13:00: 10.55km (1/4 marathon)
- 13:00: 21.1km (1/2 marathon)
It is possible to run a marathon or a half marathon in stages:
- half marathon in two stages (10.5km on Saturday and 10.5km on Sunday)
- marathon in two stages (21km on Saturday and 21km on Sunday)
- marathon in three stages (14km+21km+7km on Saturday)
- marathon in three stages (14km+7km on Saturday and 21km on Sunday)
The Saturday races take place in Siófok, the biggest and busiest resort on the shores of Balaton. Seventeen kilometres long and packed with hotels, apartment blocks, holiday homes, bars and restaurants, Siófok is one of Hungary's most popular summer holiday destinations. The route runs along the lakeside promenade and along Siófok's long and straight avenues and is completely flat.
The Sunday races are held in the town of Fonyód, 45 kilometres west of Siófok, and feature a hilly course. The second half of the half marathon, however, is flat.
