The Balaton maraton és félmaraton (Balaton Marathon and Half Marathon) is held yearly over a weekend in November in Siófok, the biggest and busiest resort on the shores of Balaton, Central Europe's largest lake.
Seventeen kilometres long and packed with hotels, apartment blocks and holiday homes, Siófok is one of Hungary's most popular summer holiday destinations.
The event is staged in Aranypart (Gold Shore), the eastern part of Siófok, which is home to the majority of the hotels, bars and restaurants.
Usually, the event offers three races on Saturday and one on Sunday:

These races can be combined in all sorts of ways. You could, for instance, run a half marathon in two stages (14km+7km), a full marathon in two stages (21km+21km) or a full marathon in three stages (14km+7km+21km).
Naturally, it is also possible to take part in only one of the races.
The route is completely flat as it runs along the lakeside promenade and along Siófok's long and straight avenues.
