RUN Dresden (previously known as Stadtlauf Dresden) offers a 5k race, a 10k and a half marathon.

Held each June in the capital of the state of Sachsen (Saxony) in the eastern part of Germany, the event draws a crowd of more than 2,000 runners.

All races start and finish on the vast Altmarkt square in the city centre.

The route runs through the historic core and along both banks of the Elbe river, passing many of Dresden's most magnificent buildings.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps of the 10k course. The second lap includes an out-and-back section along the Elbe to make it 21.1 kilometres.

Instead of a bib, all participants get a T-shirt which they must wear during the race.
