Held annually in October in Dresden, capital of the state of Sachsen (Saxony) and one of Germany's most popular tourist destinations, the Dresden Marathon offers seven races:
- 400m Bambini-Lauf (kids run)
- 1.4km Kindermarathon (kids run)
- 5km
- 10km
- 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)
- 42.2km Marathon
- 42.2km Marathon-Staffel (4-person relay)
The start/finish area is at the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion in the Sportpark Ostra, a vast complex of sports venues situated just outside Dresden's city centre.
The marathon features a scenic and mainly flat course that runs along the Elbe river, through the city centre and two times through the beautiful Großer Garten park.
