Held on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn in Germany, the Fehmarn Marathon is a multi-terrain running event for those who love the fresh air and don't mind a stiff breeze.

It's a family-friendly event offering races for all ages:

  • 1.5km Kinderlauf (kids' run for children aged 12 years and under)
  • 5km-Lauf (5k race)
  • 10km-Lauf (10k race)
  • 21.1km Halbmarathon (13.1 miles half marathon)
  • 42.2km Marathon (26.2 miles marathon)

The full marathon consists of two laps of a scenic loop course through the north-western part of Fehmarn. Participants run on grassy dikes along the coast and on asphalt and gravel roads through the pancake-flat agricultural interior of the island.

The start and the finish are at the Strandcamping Wallnau campsite on the west coast, near the Wallnau Waterbird Reserve, a lovely resting spot for migratory birds and ornithologists.

Fehmarn is connected to the German mainland by a road and rail bridge. There are also ferry connections with Denmark.
