Held in the beautiful Mecklenburg Lake District, a region of hundreds of lakes in north-eastern Germany, the Fünf-Seen-Lauf (‘Five Lakes Run’) attracts a crowd of over 2,000 participants.

The event offers five very scenic routes for runners ...

  • 1.852km = 1 Seemeile (one nautical mile): kids' run
  • 5km
  • 10km
  • 15km
  • 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)

... and two for walkers, nordic walkers and hikers:

  • 5km
  • 10km

All races begin and end in the city of Schwerin, the picturesque capital of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Schwerin is well worth a visit for its pretty Altstadt, its magnificent castle (pictured) and its location. The city is surrounded by lakes in all directions, and the Baltic Sea is also just about 30 kilometres away.

Participants run on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel, forest trails, ...) across the Schlossinsel (‘Castle Island’), through woods and parkland and along the shores of three lakes.

Previously, the route visited five lakes. Hence the name ‘Fünf-Seen-Lauf’.

The course is flat to undulating.
