The Sljemenski Maraton (English: ‘Sljeme Marathon’ or ‘Hog's Trail Marathon’) is Croatia's oldest trail running event.

It is held every year in the summer on the densely-wooded Mount Medvednica which rises to the north of Zagreb.

The start and the finish are at the radio transmission tower on the top of Sljeme (1,033m), the highest peak of the mountain.

Three race distances are available: 14km (one lap), 28km (two laps) and 42.2km (three laps).

The route is a very challenging loop on woodland trails. The first half of the course is downhill and the second half is uphill. Each lap features 478 metres of descent and 478 metres of ascent!

Sljeme is a twenty-kilometre uphill drive from Zagreb's city centre. You can get there by car or you can use a combination of tram and public bus.
