The Sonnwendlauf (‘Solstice Run’) is held annually on a Saturday evening in June in Feldbach, a small town located in a rural and hilly region in the Steiermark (Styria) province in south-eastern Austria, approximately 25 kilometres from the borders with Slovenia and Hungary.

The event offers races for all fitness levels:

  • 350m kids run (one lap)
  • 1.16km kids run (two laps)
  • 5km nordic walking (two laps)
  • 5km nordic walking relay (2 x 2.5km for mixed teams of one woman and one man)
  • 5km run (two laps)
  • 10km run (four laps)
  • 10km relay (4 x 2.5km)

Participants in the 10k race run four laps of a flat and AIMS-certified loop course through the town centre.

The route visits the cheerful architectural jumble pictured above (the neo-Gothic Villa Hold, the neo-Renaissance Parish Church St. Leonhard and the brightly-coloured concrete campanile) as well as Hauptplatz, Feldbach's spacious main square:
