Held on a very scenic 26km-long point-to-point course through the Dolomites in northern Italy, the Marcialonga Running is a popular event that attracts a crowd of well over 1,000 runners.

The race is run on roads and trails along the River Avisio, starting in Moena (pictured), a small town that sits at an elevation of 1,165 metres in the Val di Fassa, and finishing in the ski resort of Cavalese, which is at 983 metres above sea level in the Val di Fiemme.

The first 22km are downhill (305m of descent), and the last 4km are uphill (123m of ascent).

Last year, the fastest finishers came from Kenya. Philimon Kipkorir Maritim won the race in a time of 1hr 19min 21sec, Viola Jelagat was the first lady across the line (1hr 31min 1sec). The time limit to complete the course is 3hr 30min.

This year, the event also offers the opportunity to run the race as a relay (10km+8km+8km).
