The Hamburg Halbmarathon is one of Germany's top half marathon races.

In 2016, Geoffrey Yegon of Kenya (1hr 1min 45sec) and his compatriot Antonina Kwambai (1hr 12min 47sec) led a record field of almost 8,000 runners across the finish line at the ‘Am Rothenbaum’, Germany's biggest tennis stadium.

The start is on the legendary Reeperbahn in Hamburg's red-light and amusement district, approximately 3.5km from the finish area.

At the time of writing this article, a course map for the 23rd edition of the half marathon had not yet been published.

In the last years, the race began with two laps through the St. Pauli quarter. Then, participants ran along the harbour (pictured), past the warehouses of the Speicherstadt (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), through the city centre and around the Außenalster lake. The route was mainly flat with some gentle slopes.

The time limit to complete the course will be, like before, three hours.
