Held in the Ossiacher Tauern hill range in Kärnten (Carinthia), Austria, this uphill road race takes runners vom See zum Berg (from the lake to the mountain).

The route (9.2km long with 518m of ascent) is challenging but, compared to many other mountain running events in our runinternational Race Guide, it is not too demanding.

It is also very scenic. The Saissersee (pictured above) is just one of the many beautiful spots along the course.

Starting in the resort of Velden at the western end of the Wörthersee, ...

... the race is run on asphalt roads through lovely countryside and three pretty villages: Kranzlhofen, Oberjeserz and Köstenberg.

The finish line is at an elevation of 922m at the Alpengasthof Obersakoparnig.

From there, you'll walk (or jog) 1.5km back to the event centre in Köstenberg where you can pick up your clothing and take a shower.

Last year, 135 runners ran vom See zum Berg. Silvio Wieltschnig (37min 11sec) and Michaela Zwerger (45min 54sec) both defended their titles from 2015.

During the race, the course is closed to all traffic for 85 minutes.
