Chtelnica (Slovakia), Saturday 29 April 2017
Held for the first time in 1974, the Beh oslobodenia Chtelnice is a long-standing running event that attracts approximately 200 runners of all ages to the village of Chtelnica, which sits at the foot of the densely-wooded Malé Karpaty (Little Carpathians) in the western part of Slovakia.
The children's races take place in the village whereas the 10.3km race takes the runners on mixed terrain into the hills and around a reservoir in the forest.
With a difference of about 70 metres between the lowest and the highest point on the course, the route doesn't seem to be too demanding for the average runner. But be prepared for a challenge, the race features a series of climbs and descents.
Last year, the fastest finishers were Filip Moravec (36 minutes 52 seconds) and Jana Úradníková (42 minutes 38 seconds).
