The Marcia di Redipuglia is a non-competitive event that attracts a crowd of about 1,500 or more fun runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.

It is held every year on 25 April, the day when Italians celebrate the Anniversario della liberazione d'Italia, Italy's Liberation from fascism.

The marcia takes place in the "Carso della Grande Guerra", the Karst region on the border between Italy and Slovenia where fierce battles were fought between the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies during World War I.

Three multi-terrain routes are on offer, approximately 6km, 13km and 25km long.

You can start off at any time between 9am and 10am, and you can still decide on the course which route you want to take.

The first part of the course might be a bit crowded but then the routes split and you can run freely.

The routes are undulating-to-hilly and very beautiful and scenic, starting and finishing in the village of Fogliano Redipuglia which is located about halfway between the cities of Udine and Trieste.

All routes pass the Sacrario militare di Redipuglia, Italy's largest war memorial, which contains the remains of more than 100,000 soldiers:
