Moena - Cavalese (Italy), Sunday 4 September 2016
Held on a very scenic 26km point-to-point course through the Dolomites in northern Italy, the Marcialonga Running is a popular event that attracts a crowd of around 1,400 runners.
The race is run on roads and trails along the River Avisio, starting in Moena (pictured), a small town that sits at an elevation of 1,165 metres in the Val di Fassa, and finishing in the ski resort of Cavalese, which is at 983 metres above sea level in the Val di Fiemme.
The first 22km are downhill (305m of descent), and the last 4km are uphill (123m of ascent).
Last year, the fastest finishers were Said Boudalia (1hr 21min 33sec) and Deborah Toniolo (1hr 31min 55sec). The time limit to complete the course is 3hr 30min.
