Otrokovice (Czech Republic), Saturday 5 November 2016
Held in memory of the inspirational athlete and three-time Czech marathon champion Dr Josef Podmolík, the Memoriál MUDr. Josefa Podmolíka offers a number of distance races for children and adults.
Both the půlmaraton (21.1km half marathon) and the maraton a půl (63.3km marathon and half) are open to individual runners and relay teams.
The event takes place in the green areas of the industrial town of Otrokovice which sits on the Morava river in the Moravia region in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, near the city of Zlín.
Participants in the half marathon run seven laps of a certified and mostly-flat course. The route runs around the town park, which is home to many sports facilities, and out and back along the river. The race is run entirely on asphalt.
The 63.3km ultra marathon takes the runners along both banks of the Morava. The race is six laps (6 x 10.045km), plus one lap of the half marathon course. About 65 per cent of the route is on asphalt roads and bikeways, and 35 per cent is on trails. The route is also certified and mainly flat.
Participants in the ultra marathon run six times along this bikeway ...
... and six times across this footbridge:
