Schleusingen (Germany), Sunday 8 May 2016
The Slusialauf is held in the wooded foothills of the Thüringer Wald (Thuringian Forest), a 150km-long mountain range in Central Germany.
Entrants can choose between three very challenging routes—the 5.5km route (which features approximately 150m of ascent), the 14.1km route (about 350m of ascent) or the 21.1km half marathon (530m of ascent).
All races are run on mixed terrain, mostly on trails or gravel roads.
The start/finish area is on the sports pitch of Schleusingen, a small town that is well worth a visit for its its impressive castle (pictured below) and its many picturesque half-timbered buildings.
The event also offers a number of shorter races for children.
Last year's Slusialauf had 221 finishers.
