The Slusialauf is an annual multi-terrain running event held in the wooded foothills of the Thüringer Wald (Thuringian Forest), a 150km-long mountain range in Central Germany.
Participants have the choice between three very hilly routes:
- 5.5km Schnupperlauf (beginner race)
- 14.1km Hauptlauf (run and nordic walking)
- 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)
All races are run on mixed terrain, mostly on trails or gravel roads.
The start and the finish line are on the Sportplatz (sports field) of Schleusingen, a small town that is well worth a visit for its its impressive castle (pictured below) and its many picturesque half-timbered buildings.
The event also incorporates several shorter races for children. In 2021, the kids' races will be held on Sunday, one day after the races for the adults.
