5. Semi-Maratonul International București 2016
Bucharest (Romania), Sunday 15 May 2016
The Semi-Maratonul International București features an AIMS/IAAF-certified, flat, fast and traffic-free course along the monumental boulevards of Romania's capital.
Races for all ages and abilities are on offer — children's and wheelchair races, a 3.6km fun run, a 10.55km quarter marathon, a 21.1km half marathon and a half marathon relay for teams of three runners (8km+7km+6.1km).
Starting and finishing in front of the Palatul Parlamentului (Palace of Parliament), the world's largest parliament building, the 3.6km run is one loop around the palace.
The quarter and the half marathon take the runners out and back Bucharest's impressive boulevards (including the 3.5km-long Bulevardul Unirii, pictured), along both banks of the Dâmbovița River and around the Arena Națională, Romania's national football stadium.
The time limit to complete the course is 90 minutes for the quarter marathon and three hours for the half marathon.
In 2015, Peter Emase of Kenya (1:02:05) and Anne-Mari Hyryläinen of Finland (1:15:06) led a field of about 2,600 half marathon runners and 450 relay teams across the finish line. The quarter marathon had more than 2,000 finishers.
