Held in the venerable old city of Regensburg in the Free State of Bavaria in Germany, this popular running event offers a 10.55km quarter marathon, a 21.1km half marathon, a 31.65km three-quarter marathon and a 42.2km marathon.

The full marathon consists of two laps of the half marathon course. Participants in the 3/4 marathon run a half marathon and a 10.55km loop.

About 4,000 runners took part in the event in 2015. The fastest marathon finishers were Maciek Miereczko (2hr 30min 53sec) and Heike Volkert (2hr 52min 55sec). The time limit to complete the course is 5hr 30min.

Starting and finishing at the Donaupark in the western part of the city, all races feature a mostly-flat loop course which passes a great number of outstanding buildings in the medieval Old Town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Some sections in the historic city centre are on cobbles.

The 21.1km route includes a loop on a 1.3km-long systems test course for test vehicles, located on the eastern edge of the city.
