The Hamburg Halbmarathon is one of Germany's top half marathon races.

In 2015, Merhawi Kesete of Eritrea (1:00:52) and Agnes Katunge Mutune of Kenya (1:11:27) both set new course records. More than 6,400 runners completed the gently-undulating course within the three-hour time limit.

The route passes many of Hamburg's best sights:

Starting on the legendary Reeperbahn in Hamburg's red-light and amusement district, the race begins with two laps through the St. Pauli quarter.

Then, participants run along the harbour (pictured), past the warehouses of the Speicherstadt (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), through the city centre, and around the Außenalster lake.

The finish line is at the Am Rothenbaum tennis stadium (the biggest one in Germany) in the Rotherbaum quarter, approximately 3.5km from the start area.
