16th Saint Nicholas Race 2016
Terme Snovik (Slovenia), Sunday 4 December 2016
Held at the thermal spa complex of Terme Snovik, which is situated in the foothills of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in Slovenia, the Miklavžev tek (Saint Nicholas Race) is an atmospheric and increasingly popular hill running event.
The race follows a 5,360-metre-long uphill route that includes 295 metres of ascent.
Children run 1,410 metres. They have to tackle 90 metres of elevation gain.
Starting at the spa, the route takes the runners on a mix of asphalt roads, gravel roads and trails through lovely rural scenery.
The finish line is at the church of Sveti Miklavž (Saint Nicholas) which stands at about 750m above sea level on top of a wooded hill.
Last year, the event recorded a record number of finishers: 104 children, 104 women and 221 men. The fastest runners were Gašper Bregar (22 minutes 21 seconds) and Karmen Klančnik (26 minutes 16 seconds).
The entry limit has been set at 500 runners. You are well advised to register early as the race may fill up quickly.
If you register by 26 November 2016, you'll receive a free day ticket for the thermal pools of the Terme Snovik — a great place to relax after the run:
