Mursko Središće (Croatia), Saturday 27 August 2016
The Utrka grada Mursko Središće ('Mursko Središće Town Run') offers a 10km road race, a 2.5km town run and a 100m run for kids, starting and finishing at the football pitch of Mursko Središće, a small town of about 6,500 people, situated on the River Mura at the northern tip of Croatia.
Participants in the 10k race run out and back along a country road through the agricultural area that lies to the east of Mursko Središće.
Although the entry fees are very low, there are many small prizes for the best finishers, and all participants get a meal after the race.
The area around Mursko Središće is unspectacular but very charming with rolling hills and vineyards to the west, low-lying farmland to the east, and green dikes along the Mura. There are three thermal spas in the vicinity—in three different countries. Slovenia is just across the river, and Hungary is also just about ten kilometres away.
