Podersdorf am See (Austria), Sunday 3 April 2016
The Leuchtturmlauf (‘Lighthouse Run’) is held on the eastern shore of the Neusiedler See, Austria's largest lake, located on the border with Hungary.
Competitors run either one lap (3.3km), two laps (6.6km) or three laps (10km) of a flat and scenic course through parkland in Podersdorf am See, the most popular resort in the region.
Each lap includes an out-and-back run to the Leuchtturm which stands at the end of a 200-metre-long pier (pictured above).
Last year, 235 runners of all ages took part in the Leuchtturmlauf. The 10k race was won by Markus Weber (36 minutes 18 seconds). Anna-Maria Schneider was the first woman to cross the line (42 minutes 58 seconds).
The race is run on a mix of asphalt and gravel.
