The Werdauer Waldlauf (Werdau Forest Run) takes runners on asphalt and gravel roads through the Werdauer Wald, a popular recreational area near the town of Werdau in the state of Sachsen (Saxony) in Germany.
Three race distances are available (10km, 21.1km half marathon, 42.2km marathon) as well as an 11km-long route for walkers and hikers.
All routes are very undulating, starting and finishing at the Sportschule Werdau, a multi-purpose sports complex that also offers accommodation.
The full marathon begins with a 10.3km run to the Gaststätte Weidmannsruh, a restaurant and beer garden in the heart of the Werdauer Wald, followed by two laps (ca. 10.45km each) through the forest. Then, participants run 11km back home to the finish line on the athletics track of the Sportschule Werdau.
Along the route, runners pass many lovely spots, for instance the Seerosenteich (Waterlily Pond) or the Elferteich bathing lake.
The time limit to complete the marathon course is six hours.
